Wetland Migration: A Textured Dream
How This Came About
Dirt roads take you deep into the wetlands of Mattamuskeet in North Carolina where few humans are found. There are canals and little ponds of water with scrub and tree fragments that birds love. The area is a wintering ground for swans and snow geese. On a particular day as we rounded a bend, this fragment of the wetlands caught my eye. It was late afternoon in winter, sun was setting on a very cloudy day.
Having been inspired by a photographic artist who does all her award-winning work with her cell phone, I jumped out grabbing the trusty iPhone with her in mind. If she could do it, so could I! Within seconds a flight of geese flew overhead. I imagined myself with a paintbrush and canvas in front of me. I knew then I would have to create something with this capture. I added colors and textures to simulate a painter’s palette. With my creative digital brushes,I was able to replicate the geese flying overhead. The end result is a combination of a photograph with digital art.
On Location - What We Came For
A spooky rendition of the birds en mass. It was a flurry of white as they took off and flew in so I wanted to reduce the image to a simple black & white. Then I blurred it up even more.
