RIPPLES
It Only Takes One
This award winner salvaged what otherwise was a bleary colorless morning on the Isle of Palms. In January 2017, my husband and I joined my buddies of The Image Salon, our small group of photographer friends sharing critiques, exhibitions and outings, on a trip to Charleston, S.C. Waking up super early, there were nothing but clouds, but the guys were heading out regardless while I just wanted to stay in my warm bed. Peer pressure won out,but I was behind. As we approached the beach, I spotted them way off by the waves of the ocean. The sun began to peek out of the thick clouds, and I knew it would be over and done quickly. I had no time to catch up! I stopped, looked down and saw these sand ripples and the little tidal pool reflecting the sky. It was time to pull out the tripod legs and get to work, all by myself away from my friends. In seconds, the sky glowed yellow in the little break between stormy blue dawn clouds and water. The light on the ripples, followed by the mirrored reflections in the tidal pool, to the sand and ocean led my eye to the stunning sunrise light lasting but seconds. I had my shot!
Behind the Scenes
A view of my position vs. the "guys" off in the distance. I think I had the luckiest spot! The ripples and tidal pool made this a special image. The gods were with me that morning.
