Artist Statement

Abstract art. What is it? "art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures." This type of photography gives the artist a chance to "play" and be expressive. There are some beautiful natural abstract paintings in the natural world. The trick is to train your eye to see them. And once found, then the artist can begin to enhance them. I might change the orientation (flip horizontally or vertically), soften them by reducing the sharpness, or play with the colors. To me it is about color, lines and shapes that flow poetically to create a soothing image that is timeless. Its location becomes unimportant. It is about creating moods - joy, sadness, peace as examples. There is great freedom in abstract art to create and not have to be beholden to reality.
